Carteleras (Iron poster frames from the 1970s) adorn the corners of several streets in Oaxaca City.
These ornate frames were installed in the 1970s as a deterrent for increasing number of posters plastered on walls. Better to have one established place for one poster. It did not work.
As a long-term solution, this remedy failed. The plastering continued and the frames have been used in a haphazard fashion ever since, sometimes inspired and often simply neglected.
That said, we encourage locals and visitors to take photos of the frames. While chaotic, the info is sometimes timely! And the frame itself is art. Consider this a photo safari/treasure hunt and gameification on! Find as many carteleras as you can.
